3 Tricks To Eat Carbs… And STILL Lose Weight!

A few years ago when the show “Desperate Housewives” was popular, actress Eva Longoria was regularly grilled by the media about how she stays so thin.

She insisted that she could eat all the buffalo wings and Texas BBQ she wanted, but made sure to have a bite of vegetable in between every bite of fatty, sugary BBQ’d meat.

Sounds like an OK compromise, right?  It sure got my attention.

Well it’s funny.  In recent years I’ve become obsessed with finding easy food ‘tricks’ to allow me to enjoy the foods I love without suffering the effect on my thighs later.

In fact, I found that there’s a lot of wisdom in Eva’s ‘balanced’ approach to food and healthy eating.

Here are 3 of the tricks I swear by to keep my body tight, lean, and fit all year round…

1.  Never eat high-carbohydrate foods by themselves.

I don’t down a bag of pretzels when I’m too busy to grab lunch.

I don’t go for the poppyseed muffin at Starbucks to avoid the fatty plate of cheeses and meats in the case.

Plain bagel?  Just because you cut the cream cheese doesn’t make it okay!

In fact, the high-FAT foods are usually much better for you than the low-fat, high carb foods!

When you eat high-carb foods by themselves, they spike your insulin levels and turn into sugar in your body.

This causes your body to store fat, not burn it!

High-fat foods, however, satiate you for hours longer and don’t spike your blood sugar.

2.  Consume protein with your carbs

Kind of similar to Eva Longoria’s ‘pairing’ foods for weight loss; it’s important that you pair your carbs with protein.

Ditch half your plate of pasta and focus on chicken or beef with your meal.

When you have variety in your meals, you actually slow down the rate at which sugar is released into your blood.

Plus, protein causes you to release the hormone glucagon.

Glucagon fights fat AND the insulin rush you’d normally get eating carbs by themselves.

3.  Drink THIS BEFORE You Eat Anything, Every Time

Unless you’re on a temporary crash diet, carbs WILL be a part of your daily life.

Perhaps it’s a bit of pasta or a sandwich with bread.  Or maybe it’s an apple or other piece of fruit.

Carbs in moderation can still be used to lose weight.

But you must avoid consuming more calories than you need to; the mindless munching mode; or carb cravings.  Your body isn’t satiated so you keep consuming more and more calories without ever feeling full.

Carbs are so dangerous to your healthy diet plan!  (Pretzels are my weakness.  Also popcorn, cous-cous, chicken noodle soup… aiy-yai-yai!)  You get the point.
